"Just" John Filandro

About John

“Just” John is a native Long Islander.  He has sold many paintings and prints in his short career.  His love for beauty and light is expressed in his delicate work always striving for three dimensional works in his presentations.  “Just” John has had no formal training.  He won a scholarship to Pratt Institute while in High School, choosing not to take it.  He spent most of his adult life in Lithograph.  Never picking up a brush or pencil in that time.  When, Terri his daughter, started Art Therapy for rehabilitation, after cancer, coma and brain injury he assisted her.  He would draw on the paper for her to follow.  This was in 2001.  Late in 2002 he started to paint in watercolor for the first time.

Since that time he has been shown in many Galleries on Long Island and winning awards.  Participated in deCovdova’s “Maureen’s Haven Benefit”.  His first work was for The East End Lighthouse Preservation.  This was followed by the East End Seaport Marine Museum which was his second attempt at watercolor.  He has been requested to show his work at the Annual Fire Island Restoration Society each year.  He has had private Exhibitions and write ups in the papers.  He is in private collections through out the United States.  He has won awards at the International in Ga.  His work is on permanent display at the St. Johnsland Nursing home, the Marine Museum in Greenport and The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, The John Bull Exhibit.  Two of his works are displayed at The Mill Pond House, Smithtown Township Arts Council.  His works are also at The Phoenix Gallery in Bellport.  He is presently a member in Smithtown Township Arts Council, The East End Arts Council, South Bay Art Association and The Phoenix Fine Arts to name a few.  You can sample his work at his web site.
